Notes
The classic formula for Cold congealing in the uterus (寒凝胞宫) complicated by Blood deficiency and Blood stasis. It combines warming, nourishing, and light blood-moving actions in one prescription, making it the go-to gynecological formula for menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhoea, and infertility when the root cause is deficiency-cold of the Chong and Ren channels alongside Blood insufficiency. Wu-zhu-yu and Gui-zhi warm the channels and dissipate Cold; Dang-gui, Chuan-xiong, Bai-shao, and E-jiao nourish and invigorate Blood; Mu-dan-pi clears deficient heat and moves stasis; Mai-dong and Ren-shen protect Yin and Qi; Ban-xia and Sheng-jiang harmonise the stomach; Gan-cao harmonises all the ingredients. Note: when used for flooding and spotting (beng lou), an initial temporary increase in bleeding may occur as stasis resolves before bleeding ceases. ⚠️ Use with care in pregnancy. Preparation: Decoct all herbs (dissolve E-jiao separately into the strained liquid) in water; take the warm, strained decoction in three equally divided doses daily. Modifications: For more pronounced Blood stasis, add San-leng and E-zhu to strengthen the blood-moving action; for greater Qi deficiency, increase the dose of Ren-shen.
